Qi Sha (Seven Killings): pressure and decisiveness
Qi Sha controls the Day Master and shares its polarity. Also called Indirect Officer, it symbolizes forceful pressure and the resolve traditionally associated with facing it.
What it represents
Qi Sha, also called Pian Guan or Indirect Officer, controls the Day Master. Its traditional image is a demanding opponent or high-pressure environment: both pressure itself and the determination developed in response.
How to identify it in a BaZi chart
Qi Sha controls the Day Master and shares its polarity. Geng, Yang Metal, controls Jia, Yang Wood, so Geng is Jia's Qi Sha. The table shows each correspondence.
| Day Master | Corresponding Heavenly Stem | Corresponding Earthly Branch |
|---|---|---|
| Jia (甲), Yang Wood | Geng (庚), Yang Metal | Shen (申) |
| Yi (乙), Yin Wood | Xin (辛), Yin Metal | You (酉) |
| Bing (丙), Yang Fire | Ren (壬), Yang Water | Hai (亥) |
| Ding (丁), Yin Fire | Gui (癸), Yin Water | Zi (子) |
| Wu (戊), Yang Earth | Jia (甲), Yang Wood | Yin (寅) |
| Ji (己), Yin Earth | Yi (乙), Yin Wood | Mao (卯) |
| Geng (庚), Yang Metal | Bing (丙), Yang Fire | Si (巳) |
| Xin (辛), Yin Metal | Ding (丁), Yin Fire | Wu (午) |
| Ren (壬), Yang Water | Wu (戊), Yang Earth | Chen (辰), Xu (戌) |
| Gui (癸), Yin Water | Ji (己), Yin Earth | Chou (丑), Wei (未) |
The branch column uses the principal hidden stem. For a Jia Day Master, Geng or Shen indicates Qi Sha.
Possible themes in everyday life
- Decisiveness and willingness to take on difficult or demanding tasks.
- Comfort with competition and a tendency to respond energetically to pressure.
- Impatience or demanding standards for oneself and others.
- Traditional associations include high-pressure fields such as military or police work, surgery, entrepreneurship and competitive sport.
How its strength changes the traditional reading
Traditional interpretation looks for a balancing relationship: Shi Shen restraining Qi Sha is called 'Eating God controls Seven Killings'; Resource channeling it is called 'Killings and Resource generate in sequence.' These patterns symbolize turning pressure into structured action.
For a weaker Day Master with strong, unbalanced Qi Sha, a reading may emphasize excessive demands, worry or exhaustion. A chart does not diagnose a mental or physical condition.
Common misunderstandings
Despite its alarming name, Qi Sha is not a prediction of harm. Within the tradition, a well-balanced Qi Sha relationship is often valued as a symbol of resolve and accomplishment.
